USA 156, Nigeria 73

I did not see a single minute (or highlight, yet) of this game, but I am sure it must have been something else. When I turned on the TV to hopefully catch the final couple minutes, Doc Rivers and one of the network hosts were in post-game mode. However, they were not talking about the game; the host even said something like, “The box score says it all.” Instead, they were talking about Doc Rivers’ off-day adventures in London. (He will be attending a tennis match at Wimbledon tomorrow.)

Frankly, the box score does say it all. Team USA shot a blistering 71.1 percent from the field and 63 percent from behind the arc. Whoa. The assists-to-turnover ratio was 41/7. Damn. Forty-one assists! Equally impressive was the fact that both LeBron and Kobe played just 11 minutes each; the bench, led by Carmelo Anthony’s Olympic-record setting 37 points, did the bulk of the scoring.

It is not going to get any easier than this for Team USA. Lithuania and Argentina, two international powerhouses, represent the last two opponents in group play. As they say in Wisconsin: forward!
