Congrats, Mo Yan

The Swedish Academy has awarded Chinese author Mo Yan with the 2012 Nobel Prize for Literature.

Once again, I have never heard of the guy — which is not saying much for someone still reading Fear Street novellas — but Yan is apparently well-known and respected in China. And though I was initially skeptical about the choice, in light of what the award recognizes, I have since realized he was a good candidate having read a couple reports about the announcement (here and here; also check this out).

Ugh — magical realism. Though I do not have much experience reading it, it does not strike my fancy. Those wily Swedes like it, apparently. I guess I am too much of a realist.
