Beer of the Weekend #1,037: Go USA

I got my summer seasonal 12-pack a few weeks ago and have not made a single dent in it—except drinking a can of ReUnion’s Juice Factory, which I have reviewed before. (Thinking about it now, these seasonal 12-packs are a good opportunity to re-review the beers I’ve had before but have not reviewed in a while.) I need to do some double dipping on the weekends if I want to work through this pack before fall.

The first beer I drank Saturday night was Go USA, brewed by the Franklin Street Brewing Company of Manchester, Iowa.

Go USA

Serving type: 16-ounce can. “04/05/2023” is written on the bottom shoulder.

Appearance: Poured into a pilsner glass. The color is medium to deep amber. A finger of off-white, bubbly head dissipates almost immediately, leaving spots of skim and a thin collar.

Smell: Caramel and licorice. It is toasty and sweet.

Taste: It is much like the aroma: caramel, licorice, toasty, and sweet. It is also herbal with a touch of spice.

Fun facts about Go USA:

• Style: Vienna Lager.

• Price: Unsure.

• Alcohol content: 5.4 percent ABV.

• Here is the description via Untappd:

An often forgotten style of beer, our Vienna Lager has become a favorite in the taproom. Copper in color, making it darker than a typical light beer, yet Go USA! is eminently drinkable. Brewed with Vienna, Munich and Pilsner malt, giving it a nice, malty aroma and sweet malt flavor. Next time you see Brewer Kyle, ask him about the name!

• On one side of the label is a box labeled “Inside” with “pilsner, Vienna, Munich, hallertauer” and on the other side of the label is a box labeled “Life” with “Old Ebbitt, freedom, Washington, ‘Merica.”

• What is “Old Ebbitt”? The only possible reference I can find online is the Old Ebbitt Grill in Washington, DC.

The Quiet Man’s grade: B.
