Beer of the Weekend #806: Franconia Dunkel

The beer of the weekend is the other beer my uncle brought from Texas: Dunkel, brewed by the Franconia Brewing Company of McKinney, Texas.

The color is non-opaque black. A pathetic pour produces a half-finger of buttery, bubbly, cappuccino-colored head. The aroma is roasty with strong notes of dark chocolate. There is also a touch of coffee roast…and medicinal rubber, which is not a good sign. On that note, the first sip is not pleasant. It is rubbery, medicinal, and has a cardboard/flat soda flavor. This six-pack is past its prime. However, there are flavors of roasted malt, caramel, and dark chocolate. But this gets an asterisk and is going down the drain.

Fun facts about Franconia Dunkel:

• Style: Dunkel.

• Price: I don’t know.

• Alcohol content: 4.4 percent ABV.

The Quiet Man’s grade: D*.
