The Novel Diary: Week 73

Word count: 1,419 (Chapter 4 (2.0)), 50,490 (total).

The profound soul searching I intended to do last week regarding my novel did not happen — which is kind of fitting. I will, though, try to fit it in this week.

However, I will say this: when I was driving down First Avenue sometime last week, my stomach churning with the guilt of potentially putting my novel down for good (at least its current version), I thought to myself, “I have a novel in me.” I do. However, the problem is pulling it out effectively.

Perhaps all I need to do is start over — also an unattractive option but much better than quitting. Back during our freshman year in college, Bobblehead saw Kurt Vonnegut speak at the IMU. One piece of writing advice Vonnegut offered the crowd was to start as close to the end of the story as possible. It is good advice and I may try doing that. (Vonnegut, in general, is someone I should probably read more of.)
