Beer of the Weekend #1,073: Tiny Dancer

In honor of March Madness, the beer of the weekend is a basketball-themed brew from SingleSpeed Brewing of Waterloo, Iowa: Tiny Dancer.

Tiny Dancer

Serving type: 12-ounce can. “CANNED ON 02/19/24” is printed on the bottom.

Appearance: Poured into a pint glass. The color is lightly hazy gold with maybe a light tint of amber. A finger of off-white, dense, shiny head dissipates slowly.

Smell: Sharp, citrusy, and hoppy. It reminds me of the pale ales of my past. There are scents of orange, grapefruit, and lemon. There is a little bit of grass and earth.

Taste: Smooth, tame, and approachable. It’s quite crushable, though the flavor is on the muted side. Light citrus, mostly grapefruit, a touch of melon, lemon, grass, and earthy spice and bitterness that lingers on the taste buds.

Fun facts about Tiny Dancer:

• Style: Pale ale.

• Price: $11.99 for a sixer of 12-ounce cans at John’s Grocery in Iowa City.

• Alcohol content: 5 percent ABV.

• Here is the description via the beer’s webpage:

Sometimes it makes sense to pay special attention to the little guys. March Madness is definitely one of those occasions. Brewed w/ bracket busters in mind, this offering is powerful in hop character, yet gentle in ABV.

It’s a Survivor. It’s an Advancer. It’s Tiny Dancer.

• The Tiny Dancer label features tiny dimples so it feels like a basketball.

• The name makes me think of Tina Turner’s “Private Dancer,” which in turn makes me think of BO, who heard the song in sixth grade and thought it was hilarious. I can still hear him singing it to us in school.

The Quiet Man’s grade: B+.
