Beer of the Weekend #735: Longfin Lager
The beer tonight is Longfin Lager, brewed by Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits of San Diego, California.
Longfin Lager pours a clean, clear, light gold color into a pilsner glass. A finger of off-white head does not stick around long but does leave spots of bubbles and foam as well as a ring around the edge. The aroma is nice and grassy with a zesty edge. It has a nice hay scent. It is crisp, clean, and dry. Ooooh — I’m eager to try this one! The flavor is much like the aroma; it is grassy and hay-like. It has a nice bitterness and a pleasing bite. There is not much zest at first, but it emerges and tinges each sip. Overall, it is a very drinkable and tasty brew.
Fun facts about Longfin Lager:
• Style: German-style Helles.
• Price: $1.99 per 12-ounce bottle at the Hy-Vee on Waterfront Drive in Iowa City.
• Alcohol content: 4.5 percent ABV.
• Food pairings: Recommended on the beer’s webpage are tempura fried avocado, pizza with red sauce, and soft pretzel.
• IBU: 18.
