Beer of the Weekend #531: Bark Bite

After an unintended (but much appreciated) two-week hiatus, Beer of the Weekend returns to Friday! And the beer this glorious Hawkeye football bye weekend is Bark Bite, brewed by the Big Wood Brewery of White Bear Lake, Minnesota.

Serving type: 16-ounce can. No freshness date.

Appearance: Poured into a nonic pint glass. The color is honey-amber. Two fingers of dense, fluffy, white head dissipated unevenly, leaving lacing stuck to the glass.

Smell: Surprisingly balanced for an IPA. Lots of bready pale malts, cracked wheat, caramel, honey, and apricot balance notes of tangerine, grapefruit, mango, and pineapple. A little lemon zest, orange, and green apple are noticeable as well.

Taste: The mouthfeel and flavor are smooth and velvety. The flavor is a delicious and harmonious balance that mostly mirrors the aroma. Bready pale malts, a little caramel, honey, apricot, tangerine, lemon, and grapefruit. Each sip offers a gritty and bitter aftertaste.

Drinkability: This is good stuff. It is a balanced, tasty, and well-crafted brew.
