Beer of the Weekend #1,124: Wild Eddy

The beer of the weekend last week was Wild Eddy, brewed by the Big Grove Brewery of Iowa City, Iowa.

Wild Eddy

Serving type: 12-ounce can. “PACKED 03/03/25” was printed on the bottom.

Appearance: Poured into a nonic pint glass. The color was deep gold. A thick, dense, off-white head stuck around for forever and dissipated very slowly, leaving a lot of foam stuck to the glass.

Smell: Earthy and bright. Caramel, zest, a touch of rye, orange and/or grapefruit.

Taste: Whoa! It was like a hoppy dream, like a pilsner/IPA mashup. Light malt, earthy hops, caramel, balanced citrus (orange and/or grapefruit again). The bitterness stung. It was solid but started leaning bitter as it continued to warm. There was just a hint of ABV.

Fun facts about Wild Eddy:

• Style: West Coast IPA.

• Price: I’m unsure. I think it was part of an Eddy mix The Foxy Lady bought a while ago.

• Alcohol content: 7 percent ABV.

• Big Grove used to brew a West Coast IPA called West Eddy. Is this the same beer? I don’t think so.

The Quiet Man’s grade: A.
