Beer of the Weekend #1,123: Maria
The beer of the weekend last weekend was a late homage to Cinco de Mayo—and something that has been a fixture of recent Sundays at The Librarians: Maria, brewed by the Exile Brewing Company of Des Moines, Iowa.

Serving type: 12-ounce can. “Born 03042025” is printed on the bottom.
Appearance: Poured a straw color into a pilsner glass. A dense, bubbly, buttery, white head settled slowly and evenly.
Smell: Zesty with a big dose of lime. Light malt, a touch of cereal and grass. It is kind of like Cheerios in a salted margarita glass with a lime.
Taste: Crips and clean. More pilsner than margarita. Light bready malt, light zest, nice pilsner malt, honey, and light grass.
Fun facts about Maria:
• Style: Mexican lager.
• Price: Unsure. Though I have drunk a lot of it, I have never bought it.
• Alcohol content: 5 percent ABV.
• The Foxy Lady asked if I was going drink Maria while listening to Carlos Santana. I was unsure what she meant, so she refreshed my memory by playing “Maria Maria.” No, not my jam.
The Quiet Man’s grade: B+.
