Beer of the Weekend #1,122: Tursi Pils

The beer of the weekend was included in a sampler pack The Librarian bought and gave me part of: Tursi Pils, brewed by the Exile Brewing Company of Des Moines, Iowa.

Tursi Pils

Serving type: 12-ounce can. “Born 03112025” was printed on the bottom.

Appearance: Poured into a pilsner glass. The color was light gold. A dense, bubbly, buttery, white-colored head settled very slowly.

Smell: It tastes Italian. Light and zesty with hints of pilsner and adjunct malts, floral and herbal bitterness, a nice grassy bite, and a touch of spice.

Taste: Light with a touch of zest and herbal bitterness. Light pilsner malt, a touch of spice and grass. It was nice and drinkable. It had some kind of Italian pop that I can’t describe.

Fun facts about Tursi Pils:

• Style: Italian pilsner.

• Alcohol content: 4.5 percent ABV.

• Here is the description via the can and Untappd:

In the 1920s Joseph Tursi left southern Italy in search of a better life. After weeks on the Atlantic he saw the Statue of Liberty, the mother of Exiles, as he arrived in New York harbor. It gave him hope and symbolized the chance for a new life in a new land. "Exile" pays tribute to our family patriarch who sought freedom as an exile and embraced independence and opportunity in America.

• I am not a big fan of sampler packs. I suppose they have a purpose—to let one sample different types of beer—but I don’t like how it is the only way certain beers are available in cans. Perhaps they are not as commercially viable so the breweries don’t want to sell them in their own packs.

The Quiet Man’s grade: B-.
