Beer of the Weekend #1,010: Crushberry

Before I took a last-minute spring break vacay to Alabama’s Gulf Coast last week, I drank Crushberry, brewed by the Lion Bridge Brewing Company of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Crushberry

Serving type: 12-ounce can. “01/16/2023” is printed on the bottom.

Appearance: Poured into a tulip. The color is raspberry. A half-finger of raspberry-tinted head leaves a broken skim and collar.

Smell: Trix or Crunch Berries. It is like I’m a kid, eating breakfast at the counter with a bowl of it in front of me. There is a lot of fruit, and a good dose of cereal, like Cheerios.

Taste: Very tart and not like cereal. Lots of tart berry; raspberry, blueberry It has that sour funk. Very tasty but tart.

Fun facts about Crushberry:

• Style: Lion Bridge calls it “Kettle Sour with Blueberry and Berry Flavor.”

• Price: Unsure.

• Alcohol content: 6.7 percent ABV.

• Here is the description via the brewery website:

For our 8th Anniversary, we wanted to come up with something that embodies the "terroir" of Cedar Rapids. When Crunchberry Day gives its sweet aromatic embrace to our fair city, we take a deep breath and whisked away to sweet cereal of our youth. We hope this beer if fun for you. Drink on Crunchberry Day for extra enjoyment.

The Quiet Man’s grade: B+.
