Nu shooz: Brooks Ghost 5

Today was a day of many firsts — at least firsts in a long while.

I bought new running shoes for the first time since January 2012. It is not like I wore my Ghost 4’s to the bone or anything. After being sidelined by the Mysterious Hamstring Discomfort, I did not run much at all last spring or summer. I hit the pavement last fall, but stopped running sometime in November. However, I needed new shoes anyway. After weeks of thinking about it, I finally splurged.

This also marks the first time I bought shoes at the new Running Wild downtown. I no longer need to spend my money in Coralville. I knew exactly what I wanted — the new Ghost edition, whatever the number was — so I was unconcerned by the selection. However, I will say they had a lot more shoes than the Coralville store. Not only that, but the Iowa City store is bigger and has treadmills for test runs.

And… I ran for the first time in months. It was short, easy run and it felt good. I need to slowly ease back into it.
