2011 IHSAA Football, Week 7

The Little Hawks got back to their winning ways tonight, beating Dubuque Wahlert, 27-10, at Bates Field.

There is really not much to write about. It was another grind-it-out, one-dimensional effort from City High, though the Little Hawks lined up in the shotgun a handful of times in the second half. They even passed. And punted. Yeah, that’s right: the Little Hawks punted — twice. The first punt was for 60-plus yards and the ball rolled into the end zone. The other was an 11-yard shank.

The Little Hawks have one more home game. Next week they play at Linn-Mar, and I am certain they will return with a second loss. The Lions throttled Washington tonight, the team that upset City High last week. However, you can never judge a game solely by the teams they have previously beaten or lost to. Wahlert throttled Washington earlier this season. Anyway, I have no clue what game I will see next week, but I will be sure to see some game.

Tonight was, though, memorable because it was perfect football weather. We are having Indian summer conditions, so the day was warm. But tonight there was a very slight chill in the air. It was perfect weather to wear shorts and a sweatshirt. Football weather, baby. Not too warm, not too cold. I cherish these night. They are special, and they do not last long.
