Beer of the Weekend #1,106: Cherry Bomb Blonde
My neighbor is currently in school to become a Methodist minister—which is why it was so hilarious and surprising to see the voluptuous, 1940s-esque model on the can of Cherry Bomb Blonde, brewed by the Front Street Brewery of Davenport, Iowa, in the custom sixer he gave me for Christmas.
“Whoa!” I thought. “He saw this and picked it out?!”
Serving type: 16-ounce can. There is no discernable freshness date.
Appearance: Poured into a pint glass. The color is a nice gold. A straight pour produced thick, off-white, buttery, bubble-spotted head that dissipates slowly.
Smell: Cherry is noticeable from an arm’s length away. Very sweet and fruity; it smells like a maraschino cherry. That’s about it, really. It is quite enticing.
Taste: Fruity and sweet. Very potent. It is mostly cherry and general sweetness. It is not even a good cherry flavor; it is like cherry-flavored NyQuil or cough syrup. It is artificially tart with a lot of acidity. It is too overpowering for me.
Fun facts about Cherry Bomb Blonde:
• Style: It is classified as fruit/field beer. I thought it was a blond ale.
• Price: Making a Cyclone fan happy.
• Alcohol content: 5.4 percent ABV.
• Here is the description via the beer’s Untappd page: “An American light hybrid beer with a mild, moderately sweet malt flavor and subtle fruitiness courtesy of the cherry. The result is a refreshingly light and aromatic brew-an instant classic!” Subtle fruitiness my ass.
• The name makes me think of The Runaways:
• The can says the beer is packaged and brewed for Front Street by the Potosi Brewing Company.
The Quiet Man’s grade: C-.
