The Novel Diary: Week 12

Word counts: 9,627 (Chapter 2); 22,257 (total).

Chapter 2 drags on. It is almost out of control. However, on Sunday night I managed to set up the ending. All it needs is about 200 or 300 more words and I think I will have the first draft in the can. I never thought it would be longer than Chapter 1, but the fat and gristle can easily — “easily” — be trimmed later.

I opted not to write tonight. Instead, I watched the men’s basketball championship at Mervgotti’s. Way back in November, who would have guessed UConn would take the Division I throne? Absolutely nobody. And who would have guessed Butler could shoot so horribly? Sometimes teams have bad nights, and the Bulldogs had one at the worst possible time. The next time Butler reaches a championship game, I suggest they wear their white, home uniforms.
