Beer of the Weekend #1,154: Triple Eddy

The beer of the weekend last weekend was a big beer I would typically not drink: Triple Eddy, brewed by the Big Grove Brewery of Iowa City, Iowa.

Triple Eddy

Serving type: 12-ounce can. “PACKAGED 12/01/25” was printed on the bottom.

Appearance: Poured into Mrs. V. The color was hazy amber. A bubbly, buttery, off-white head popped away slowly and left a lot of foam stuck to the glass.

Smell: Smooth and creamy citrus with arboreal/earthy hops. Grapefruit, orange, pineapple, and caramel sweetness. It is an enticing mélange.

Taste: Citrus and alcohol. It made me think of a tame and thicker, creamier Screwdriver. It was a mélange of citrus and it seemed orange stood out. The ABV edge was there but not overwhelming. Caramel sweetness and earthy/arboreal bitterness were also present. There were also hints of stone fruit and a touch of cantaloupe.

Fun facts about Triple Eddy:

• Style: Triple IPA. I normally avoid doubles because I’m not interested in the ABV, but The Librarian bought Triple Eddy for me and I thought I would give it a shot.

• Price: Unsure.

• Alcohol content: 11 percent ABV.

The Quiet Man’s grade: B+.
