Beer of the Weekend #1,093: Cloud Trippin'

I busted out my Number One Pint Glass last weekend for this brewed from Clinton: Cloud Trippin’, brewed by the Great Revivalist Brewery of Clinton, Iowa.

Cloud Trippin’

Serving type: 12-ounce can. No freshness date.

Appearance: It pours a hazy deep gold into a shaker pint glass. Half a finger of off-white bubbly, buttery head leaves a skim and collar.

Smell: Juicy and enticing but tame. There are scents of grapefruit, orange, pineapple, caramel, cherry licorice, and a touch of earthy hops.

Taste: Malty, citrusy, and slightly boozy. It is not bursting with citrus and tropical fruit, but they are there with flavors of orange, grapefruit, and pineapple. The malt keeps it tame, though it is still sticky sweet. The booze tickles the taste buds after each sip.

Fun facts about Cloud Trippin’:

• Style: Hazy IPA.

• Price: $11.99 for a sixer of 12-ounce cans at Benz Beverage Depot in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

• Alcohol content: 7.3 percent ABV. I did not realize it was that high.

• Great Revivalist is located in a church built in 1898.

The Quiet Man’s grade: C+.
