Beer of the Weekend #1,092: Blueberry Lemon Tart

The beer tonight is something I drank a can of last week and have been dreaming of ever since: Blueberry Lemon Tart, brewed by Barn Town Brewing of West Des Moines, Iowa (though printed on the can is “under special agreement Eau Claire, WI”).



Serving type: 16-ounce can. There is no freshness date.

Appearance: Poured into a tulip. The color is raspberry red. A half finger of red-tinted, fizzy head dissipates quickly and leaves a spot of bubbles and a collar.

Smell: Like a boozy berry smoothie. It reminds me a lot of my mother-in-law’s blueberry lemon cake, though this version is on steroids. Blueberry, lemon, raspberry, graham cracker, and cheese cake.

Taste: This is the definition of crushable—for me, at least. It is like the liquid version of blueberry lemon cake with raspberries on top. I have to resist the urge to guzzle it. It is very tart and each sip leaves the mouth coated in a layer of sweetness. Blueberry, raspberry, lemon, a touch of vanilla, and a hint of the cheese cake from the smell. They are very potent and might be artificial.
