Beer of the Weekend #816: Faversham's Finest ESB
I rode my bike down to the Iowa City Brewlab and filled my mini-growler (or “meowler”) with the beer of the weekend — Faversham’s Finest ESB.
The color is cloudy, caramel amber. About a finger-width of buttery, bubble-spotted, lightly tanned head leaves a bubbly skim and ring around the edge. The aroma is malty and floral with scents of caramel, toasted malt, and spicy floral hops. The flavor mostly mirrors the aroma with caramel, light toast, and spicy floral hops. There are also light flavors of butterscotch and toffee.
Fun facts about Faversham’s:
• Style: English pale ale.
• Price: $8 for 32-ounce growler fill at the Iowa City Brewlab.
• Alcohol content: 4.5 percent ABV.
• IBU: 25
• Faversham’s, I believe, was the first beer brewed by the Brewlab.
The Quiet Man’s grade: B.
