Beer of the Weekend #784: Nessie

I unpacked one of my Becker glasses earlier this week and found a fitting beer to fill it with this weekend: Nessie, brewed by the Iowa City Brewlab of Iowa City, Iowa.

The color is very hazy, dark, honey brown. A finger of luscious, bubbly, dense, shiny head settles slowly and sticks to the side of the glass. It smells tasty and kind of reminds me of autumn, especially November around Thanksgiving — Becker glass season. It is toasty and chocolaty with brown malt, caramel, maybe toffee, molasses, singed toast, dark fruit, and rye spice. The flavor also offers that Thanksgiving feel. There are flavors of brown malt, chocolate, dark fruit, earthy hops, and rye spice. The rye and hops leave a lasting bitterness on the taste buds. This is a very tasty session beer, one that would definitely befit a dark, cold night in November.
