Beer of the Weekend #782: Yard Sale

It feels like an all-Iowa version of BotW this week. I filled my Kalona growler with suds from Cedar Rapids in Waukee.

The beer of the weekend is Yard Sale, brewed by the Lion Bridge Brewing Company of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The color is medium, golden-amber. A finger of shiny, eggshell-colored, bubbly head settles slowly and leaves a bubbly lacing and foamy ring around the outside. The aroma is faint but enticing with a pleasing balance of citrus, tropical fruit, and caramel. There are scents of grapefruit, kiwi, mango, light zest, caramel, and maybe passion fruit. The flavor is well balanced and offers a pleasing bitterness. There are flavors of light citrus and tropical fruit, zest, and caramel. Much like the aroma, it is subtle but oh so tasty. It is tame and satisfying, and leaves a pleasing, zesty bitterness on the taste buds.

Fun facts about Yard Sale:

• Style: American IPA.

• Price: $13.99 for a 64-ounce growler fill at the Hy-Vee on Hickman Road in Waukee, Iowa.

• Alcohol content: 6.7 percent ABV.

• Like many Hy-Vees now, the Waukee store has a growler filling station. But instead of filling the growler with a tube hooked to the tap, they use what is called a PEGAS Craftap.

The Quiet Man’s grade: B/B+.
