Beer of the Weekend #717: Yabba Dhaba Chai Tea Porter
It is finally time to drink Yabba Dhaba Chai Tea Porter, brewed by the James Page Brewing Company of Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
Yabba Dhaba Chai Tea Porter pours an almost-opaque black into a pint glass. A finger of tan, dense, buttery head leaves a mostly even skim and thicker ring around the edge. The aroma is malty and cherry licorice is prominent. It reminds me a lot of Huber Bock. There seems to be more going on in the background, though, with touches of spice. Is that ginger? The beer’s webpage says so. Those background aromas are much more prominent in the flavor. Cherry licorice and toasted malt provide a solid and tasty foundation for flavors of ginger, a little cinnamon, and some other spices that I cannot pin down (the beer’s webpage mentions clove, cardamom, and anise). Wow — I am impressed!
