Beer of the Weekend #707: Limber Legs

In honor of the annual Oktoberfest festivities in Iowa City, Amana, and elsewhere across the world this weekend, the beer of the weekend is something I have been eyeing for a while: Limber Legs, brewed by the Kalona Brewing Company of Kalona, Iowa.

The color is medium amber. A somewhat aggressive pour produces a finger and a half of off-white head that leaves a skim and thin ring around the edge. The aroma is sweet; scents of toasted malt, caramel, and some dark esters are noticeable. The caramel and dark fruit are the most prominent. The flavor mostly mirrors the smell with light toasted malt, caramel, and fruit. It also has that distinctive Kalona flavor. It tastes like malt so it may be something they source locally. The description of the beer on the Kalona website says, “The finish is soft and somewhat dry with a whisper of noble hops.” I agree.
