Beer of the Weekend #706: Slow Ride
As a fan of Dazed and Confused, I could not pass up the chance to buy a can of Slow Ride, brewed by the Oasis Texas Brewing Company of Austin, Texas.
Slow Ride is a hazy gold color. Two fingers of dense, white head dissipates unevenly, leaving thick spots of foam and lacing. The aroma is faint but there are scents of hop citrus — grapefruit, orange, lemon — and hints of tropical fruit. There is also a balancing presence of bready malt and a touch of spice. The flavor features a moderate astringency reminiscent of lemon seed. There is light citrus, light hop bitterness, balancing malt, and some spice. It is nice and spring-like session ale — perfect for tipping back beneath a moon tower.
Fun facts about Slow Ride:
• Style: American Pale Ale.
• Price: $1.04 per 12-ounce can at the Spec’s Wine, Spirits & Finer Foods store on Texas State Highway 121 in The Colony, Texas.
• Alcohol content: 4.8 percent ABV.
• IBU: 35.
• There are a couple connections between the movie and the beer:
• Speaking of moon towers, they actually exist in Austin. It is the only city in the world that still uses moon towers.
The Quiet Man’s grade: B-.

• There are a couple connections between the movie and the beer:
- The Oasis Texas Brewing Company is based in Austin, Texas, where the events of Dazed and Confused take place.
- Foghat’s “Slow Ride” is played at the end of the movie, after Mitch comes home and the other characters are on their way to get Aerosmith tickets.
- The wheel logo, I am pretty sure, is a reference to the American muscle cars seen in the film.
- Though it is not included on the can, “Party at the moon tower!” is written on the beer’s webpage.
