Beer of the Weekend #712: Local Buzz
The beer of the weekend is Local Buzz, brewed by the Four Corners Brewing Company of Dallas, Texas.
Many Texas beers down, two to go… (I have to admit it — I bought way too much beer in Texas. I have bought boxes worth of beer before, but something about this bounty makes it seem over the top.)
The color is clear, medium gold. A finger of eggshell-colored, dense, bubbly, slightly buttery head leaves a bubbly skim and bubbly ring around the edge. The aroma is somewhat dry and dominated by that distinctive rye earthiness. There are also scents of pale malt and honey. The rye is upfront and personal in the flavor. It offers a nice bite, is a little spicy, and leaves a lasting impression on the taste buds after each sip. Backing it are pale malt, honey, and maybe a touch of zest.

• Style: The brewery calls it honey-rye golden ale.
• Price: $9.22 per six-pack of 12-ounce cans at the Spec’s Wine, Spirits & Finer Foods store on Texas State Highway 121 in The Colony, Texas.
• Alcohol content: 5.2 percent ABV.
• IBU: 20.
• Since I bought a sixer of Local Buzz, and the cans feature the 360º tops, I will drink at least one straight from what is know as the “full aperture end.” I’m sure it will be different.
The Quiet Man’s grade: B+.
