Beer of the Weekend #716: Schlafly Tasmanian IPA
I can’t say the beer of the weekend is the beer for the whole weekend because I only have one bottle. But why not? It’s never stopped me before.
The beer of the weekend is Schlafly Tasmanian IPA, brewed by the Saint Louis Brewery of Saint Louis, Missouri.
Tasmania IPA pours a cloudy, golden amber. A finger of dense, buttery, bubble-spotted, eggshell-colored head dissipates slowly and unevenly. The aroma is a little musty with a touch of armpit (this is not the freshest bottle), but underneath are tropical fruits. Pineapple, kiwi, and citrus fight for prominence. The tropical fruit and citrus may not play as prominent a role in the flavor as they did when this bottle was fresh (or so I assume), but they are still very noticeable. The flavor is well balanced, coupling the citrus and bitterness with a creamy maltiness. There is a little hop astringency and fleeting hints of alcohol are detectable, but it does not distract from the other flavors. Overall, the beer is an amazing and tasty blend.
