Beer of the Weekend #1,158: Muskelager Pale Lager

The beer of the weekend is the other Pecatonica brew I grabbed on a recent day trip to the Badger State: Muskelager Pale Lager, brewed by the Pecatonica Beer Company of Gratiot, Wisconsin.

Muskelager Pale Lager

Serving type: 12-ounce can. A batch code and apparent time are printed on the bottom but there is no discernable freshness date.

Appearance: Pours a light and clear straw into a pilsner glass. White, billowy, buttery, dense head settles slowly and unevenly.

Smell: Light malt, zest, adjunct grain (seems like corn), and a touch of grassy/earthy hops. It smells like a dive-bar light beer.

Taste: There is not a lot of flavor. It is very pale and inoffensive, but very drinkable and crushable. It has a light malt pop with zest and a slight bite. It is slightly sweet. If Muskelager is white-bread beer, then this is even-whiter-white-bread beer.

Fun facts about Muskelager Pale Lager:

• Style: It is classified as “Lager – Pale” on Untappd. The beer has no presence on the Pecatonica website and is not on BA yet, but I think BA would probably classify as an American adjunct.

• Price: Unsure, but I bought it at the Roelli Cheese Haus in Shullsburg, Wisconsin.

• Alcohol content: 3.5 percent ABV. It’s light and very easy drinking!

• I opened a can during dinner on Friday and The Foxy Lady said to Jam, “That’s an interesting label. Look at the army guys and the UFO.” Huh? Army guys and a UFO? Sure enough, the two figures on the can kind of look like soldiers and the thing in the middle (which is probably a lamp) looks like a UFO. I had not noticed that before and had a good laugh. I assume this label is supposed to be the night-time version of Muskelager’s label.

The Quiet Man’s grade: C.
