Beer of the Weekend #1,157: Muskelager
The beer last weekend was Muskelager, brewed by the Pecatonica Beer Company of Gratiot, Wisconsin.

Serving type: 12-ounce can. Half of something was printed on the bottom edge but I could make it out.
Appearance: Poured into a pilsner glass. The color was solid gold with a slight chill haze. A big, dense, off-white head settled slowly. Chunks of sedimentation were evident.
Smell: Light, malty, crisp, lemon zest, floral hops. It smells like a brewery.
Taste: The first sip was a little rusty and old. The second sip was better, more beer-like. Light malt, light lemon, light hops. There is not much flavor; it is mostly white-bread beer. Nonetheless, it tasted like a beer that has been sitting in a store for a while.
Fun facts about Muskelager:
• Style: Pecatonica calls it golden lager. BA classifies it as American lager.
• Price: I forgot to grab the receipt, but I bought it at the Roelli Cheese Haus in Shullsburg, Wisconsin.
• Alcohol content: 4.2 percent ABV.
• Muskelager takes its name from the fish, the muskellunge, more commonly called a muskie. I have always wondered where the name came from and learned that it originates from Ojibwe.
• I always thought Gratiot was pronounced “Gra-show,” but my uncle pronounced it “Gra-shit.”
The Quiet Man’s grade: C.
