Beer of the Weekend #1,150: Chucktown Brown
The beer of the weekend is a nice surprise I found at John’s Grocery: Chucktown Brown, brewed by the Tellurian Brewery of Charles City, Iowa.

Serving type: 16-ounce can. There is an obscure batch code on the can but no discernable freshness date.
Appearance: Pours a deep brown in to my Number One Pint Glass. A dense, bubbly, buttery, tan head settles slowly and leaves trails of foam on the glass.
Smell: Nice and toasty! I have not smelled that in a while. Caramel, toasted malt, toasted nuts, a touch of vanilla, a hint of dark fruit, and some dark chocolate.
Taste: The flavor is not as toasty and the mouthfeel is on the thinner side. Dark fruit (cherry?) is more noticeable. There are also flavors of caramel, toasted malt, a touch of vanilla, and a slight nuttiness. A light toasted bitterness lingers on the taste buds.
Fun facts about Chucktown Brown:
• Style: Brown ale.
• Price: $11.99 for a four-pack of 16-ounce cans at John’s Grocery in Iowa City.
• Alcohol content: 5.2 percent ABV.
• Chucktown Brown has some really cool can art: a cityscape of Charles City that includes a cable-stayed suspension bridge. A cable-stayed suspension bridge? In Charles City? Yep, there is. It is a pedestrian bridge that crosses the Cedar River. It opened in 2010 and replaced the original 1906 swinging bridge that was destroyed by flooding in 2008. #TheMoreYouKnow.
The Quiet Man’s grade: C+/B-.
