Beer of the Weekend #1,133: Cuttin' Grasses

The beer last weekend was Cuttin’ Grasses, brewed by the Dimensional Brewing Company of Dubuque, Iowa.

Cuttin' Grasses

Serving type: 16-ounce can. There was no freshness date.

Appearance: Poured into a nonic. The color was hazy caramel. A super dense, meringue-like, buttery head dissipated very slowly. It was one of the best heads I have ever seen.

Smell: Earthy with citrus. Grapefruit, orange, caramel, lemon, grass, earthy spice, maybe brown sugar. It is sharp at times and maybe a touch green.

Taste: Smooth, balanced, and tasty. More malty than the aroma. Caramel, chocolate, toast, earthy hops, grapefruit, orange, grass. It has a nice bite, though the hops do not dominate. It is like a black IPA that is not black.

Fun facts about Cuttin’ Grasses:

• Style: West Coast pale ale.

• Price: $16.99 for a 4-pack of 16-ounce cans at John’s Grocery in Iowa City.

• Alcohol content: 5.2 percent ABV.

• I love the
Teen Wolf reference on the label art:

The Quiet Man’s grade: A.
