Beer of the Weekend #1,099: Foggy Geezer
Anyone who’s watched PAW Patrol knows Mayor Humdinger. He’s the selfish, self-absorbed, self-infatuated, self-aggrandizing major of Foggy Bottom who always overestimates himself and is thankless when rescued. He is a total ringer for Donald Trump, which is why I recently referred to the forthcoming Trump administration as President Humdinger 2.0. It’s why I though Foggy Geezer, brewed by WarPigs USA Brewing of Munster, Indiana, was a fitting beer of the weekend a few weeks ago.
Serving type: 12-ounce can. “PKGD ON 10/04/24” is printed on the bottom. Fresh!
Appearance: Poured into a nonic pint glass. One and a half fingers of off-white, billowy, bubbly head settles slowly and leaves a lot of lacing.
Smell: Tropical and sweet. Sharp and powdery. There are scents of grapefruit, orange, citrus acid, and something stronger than orange. There are also scents of light caramel, toast, and earthy hops.
Taste: Smooth and citrusy. It is a pleasant mélange. Valencia orange and grapefruit. It is somewhat creamsicle-like. It is sharp and hoppy but not aggressive. There are also notes of mango and a touch of pineapple. The Foxy Lady says, “That’s everything I like in a beer.”
Fun facts about Foggy Geezer:
• Style: Hazy IPA.
• Price: $11.29 for a six-pack of 12-ounce cans at Gary’s in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
• Alcohol content: 7.3 percent ABV.
• Here is the description via the brewery’s website:
• The name WarPigs makes me think of Black Sabbath:
• WarPigs’s skull-in-helmet logo evokes something from a movie, maybe Alien. Actually, I think it was the beginning of Enemy Mine: a dead astronaut floating in space, their helmet broken and head dry and skull-like.
The Quiet Man’s grade: A.

Citrus and tropical hop varieties gather en masse to bring you this dynamic and expressive Hazy IPA. Aromatics of pineapple, passion fruit, and mango cut through the fog to make this beer the most devastating in the room. Built to showcase what an IPA can be.
