Beer of the Weekend #765: Amber Altbier

I busted out my stange, which means tonight I am drinking Amber Altbier, brewed by the Liquid Mechanics Brewing Company of Lafayette, Colorado.

The color is medium, ruby-tinted brown. Two fingers of light tan, shiny, fluffy, bubble-spotted head settles slowly and leaves an even and bubble-spotted skim and ring around the edge. The aroma is malty and partially sweet with scents of caramel, toasted malt, cherry licorice, a touch of toffee (maybe; my experiences with toffee are so rare I can never remember what it smells or tastes like), cocoa, and sweet, dark fruit and berries, which may include black raspberry. The flavor mostly mirrors the smell, though the hops are much more noticeable. It is sweet upfront but toasted and floral characters take over. There are flavors of toasted malt, caramel, floral hops, toffee (why not mention it?), cherry licorice, and notes of dark fruit and berries. The dark fruit becomes much more prominent as the beer continues to warm.
