Beer of the Weekend #642: Milk Man Milk Stout
The beer tonight, which I suppose one could call the default beer of the weekend, is Milk Man Milk Stout, brewed by the Confluence Brewing Company of Des Moines, Iowa.
Serving type: 32-ounce bottle. No freshness date.
Appearance: Pours an opaque black into a pint glass. About a finger of tan head leaves a spotted skim and a thin ring around the edge.
Smell: Roasted malt is most prominent. It reminds me of a coffee shop. There are also scents of chocolate and oats.
Taste: I don’t know what to write, other than that it is a milk stout. The mouthfeel is smooth, but it is not full and creamy; the effect of the lactose is very noticeable, which means it tastes like milk infused stout. The roasted malt, chocolate, and oats from the aroma are there, but they are tempered by the lactose. But that’s a milk stout.
Drinkability: This is good and drinkable stuff. The flavor is there, but, as a milk stout, the lactose affects the flavor and mouthfeel. It is good out of the bottle, but it would probably be better on nitro.
