Beer of the Weekend #520: Wasatch Pumpkin Ale

For my birthday, J-Rod bought me a custom sixer of pumpkin ales and autumn-seasonals — which means I really need to finish off the remaining seasonals I bought earlier this month.

Today’s brown bottle lunch is Wasatch Pumpkin Ale, brewed by the Utah Brewers Cooperative of Park City, Utah.

Serving type: 12-ounce bottle. The “BORN” date printed on the shoulder of the bottle is “08/08/13.”

Appearance: Poured into a pint glass. The color is hazy amber with an orange hue. Two fingers of eggshell-colored head settled quickly, leaving an even skim and ring around the edge.

Smell: Faint but very pumpkin pie-like, with lots of the accompanying spices. Pumpkin, nutmeg, all-spice, and minor cinnamon.

Taste: The spices are strong at first, fade after a couple sips, then reemerge after the beer warms a touch. Also: the mouthfeel is half beer-like and half reminiscent of seltzer or flat soda at first, but then exhibits a medium, beer-like body after warming. The beer offers nice notes of nutmeg, all-spice, and a little cinnamon alongside the pumpkin.

Drinkability: Tasty and very drinkable.
