Hot off the Press: When the dam breaks edition

This was another slow news week for me (I've been busy lately), but I'm getting caught up.

Along parts of the Gulf, especially Louisiana, dogs and cats are being dropped off at shelters "in droves" because their owners are being squeezed by the affects of the oil spill: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/23/us/23spillpets.html?_r=1&ref=us. This is a good time to remind people that pets are not rights or fashion accessories. They are living creatures you need to care for and nurture. If you don't have those means, don't fucking get a pet.

Disney has been hyping its apparent remake of "Tron" for about three years, hoping to create enough buzz so the mega-expensive movie won't be a bust: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/26/business/media/26tron.html?8dpc. Dear Hollywood: Stop with the remakes already!

Despite a continued slump in sales, many companies are reporting profits. Why? They're cutting jobs and operating costs to keep profits growing: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/26/business/economy/26earnings.html?ref=us.

The economic aftermath of the Lake Delhi dam rupture looks to hit Delaware Country pretty hard: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/27/us/27iowa.html?ref=us. The bookkeeper's quote at the end is straight from the depths of Fox News, but whatever.
