Beer of the Weekend #1,172: Toppling Goliath Oktoberfest
Jam’s in-home preschool teacher, Miss Margie, has glass boots on display on a shelf in her kitchen. I had been meaning to borrow one for a while and finally did last week. I filled it with Oktoberfest, brewed by the Toppling Goliath Brewing Company of Decorah, Iowa.

Serving type: 12-ounce can. “PKG 07/01/2026” was printed on the bottom.
Appearance: Poured into a boot. The color was light, clear caramel. A fluffy, bubbly, light honey/caramel colored head settled slowly.
Smell: Sweet caramel, light toast, honey, light cocoa, and brown sugar.
Taste: Tasty and light. Sweet caramel, honey, cocoa, brown sugar, and earthy hops. It was sweet but had a nice bite. Smooth and very drinkable.
Fun facts about Oktoberfest:
• Style: Märzen.
• Price: $11.29 for a sixer of 12-ounce cans at Gary’s in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
• Alcohol content: 5.2 percent ABV.
• My payment for borrowing the boot is having to watch The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It’s the reason why Miss Margie has a collection of glass boots.
The Quiet Man’s grade: A-.
