Beer of the Weekend #1,141: P3 Lager

The beer of the weekend last weekend was something I found deep in the walk-in cooler at John’s (deeper than I usually venture since that’s where the really expensive stuff seems to be): P3 Lager, brewed by the Phase Three Brewing Company of Lake Zurich, Illinois.

P3 Lager

Serving type: 12-ounce can. “PACKED ON 09-16-2025 09:47:18” was printed on the bottom.

Appearance: Poured into a pilsner glass. The color was solid, lighter gold. Off-white, bubbly, dense, buttery head bubbled away slowly.

Smell: Sharp, malty, and zesty. Smelled like a good dive bar beer. Pale malt, earthy hops, and lemon zest. Simple and enticing. A touch metallic.

Taste: Good, simple lager. Light malt, earthy hop bite, and lemon zest. The malts became prominent as the beer warmed but it still had a decent bite.

Fun facts about P3 Lager:

• Style: BA classifies it as American lager.

• Price: $21.97 for a sixer of 12-ounce cans at John’s Grocery—which is insane!

• Alcohol content: 5 percent ABV.

• Despite the fact Illinois is next to Iowa, I don’t drink much beer from Illinois. I don’t think we get much beer from Illinois, or I am shamefully ignorant of Illinois breweries. (How many times can I write Illinois in a sentence?) Maybe I should challenge myself and have an Illinois month.

The Quiet Man’s grade: B.
