Beer of the Weekend #1,136: Hawktoberfest

Much like I realized I had never reviewed anything from West O, I realized I had never reviewed this seemingly ubiquitous märzen from a local brewery: Hawktoberfest, brewed by Backpocket Brewing of Coralville, Iowa.

Hawktoberfest

Serving type: 12-ounce can. “07/22 #102” is printed on the bottom.

Appearance: Poured into a stange. The color was a medium caramel that leaned light. A big, dense, off-white, buttery, bubbly head settled slowly.

Smell: Light caramel, light toast, honey, rye, earthy spice.

Taste: More toast than caramel. Sweeter, lighter, red licorice, honey, Cheerios, maybe brown sugar.

Fun facts about Hawktoberfest:

• Style: Märzen.

• Price: $11.29 for a sixer of 12-ounce cans at Gary’s in Mount Vernon.

• Alcohol content: 5.3 percent ABV.

The Quiet Man’s grade: B.
