Good Tunes: Hootie and the Blowfish, 'Only Wanna Be with You'

Yeah, I really need to start writing more summer of ’95 posts, and posts in general. I’ll get to them ... eventually.

In the meantime, one can’t think of music in 1995 and not think of the Dolphins making Darius Rucker cry. Part of Hootie and the Blowfish’s 1994 album Cracked Rear View, “Only Wanna Be with You” was released as a single in July 17, 1995. (The album was, according to Wikipedia, the best-selling album of 1995.) The song was no doubt in heavy rotation on VH1 and contemporary hits radio that summer. Much like “I’ll Be There for You,” it was inescapable—but much more tolerable.

I doubt I had seen the official music video before today. Wow—Olbermann and Patrick anchoring SportsCenter! Seeing that was a welcome and unexpected blast from the past.
