Beer of the Weekend #911: Blurr
The weather has been brutal the last couple of weeks. Lots of snow, lots of ice, and periods of record-breaking Arctic cold. It’s much more like I remember winter being when I was younger, though I’ve read that people tend to better remember weather extremes (very hot summers and super cold and snowy winters).
Anyway, the beer of the weekend is a welcome taste of spring and summer during this period of winter blues: Blurr, brewed by the SingleSpeed Brewing Company of Waterloo, Iowa.
The color is gold with a very light haze. A finger of white, buttery, bubble-spotted head settles slowly and leaves a frothy skim and collar.
The aroma is citrusy and inviting. There are scents of lemon, stone fruit, and touches of orange, grapefruit, mango, and pineapple. It makes me think of warmer, sunnier times. It’s earthy and there are also hints of pine and grass.
The flavor is bitter, citrusy, and lightly tropical. It mostly mirrors the aroma with flavors of lemon, orange, stone fruit, grapefruit, mango, pineapple, pine, and grass. The mouthfeel is smooth and soft. The earthy bitterness lingers on the taste buds long after each sip.
