Beer of the Weekend #883: Easy Jack IPA
I have decided to once again fill my growler each week this summer. However, it is not summer yet, so the beer this weekend comes in a can: Easy Jack IPA, brewed by the Firestone Walker Brewing Company of Paso Robles, California.
The color is lightly hazy gold. A finger of beige head leaves an even skim and a buttery collar around the edge.
The aroma is fruity and citrusy and portends bitterness with a dose of citrus and arboreal hops. There are scents of orange, grapefruit, a touch of tropical fruit (more kiwi than pineapple), and pine. It has lemon zest as well.
The flavor is mostly citrusy, but it has a touch of arbor also. It has a pleasant bite but is not overpowering; it is definitely easy on the taste buds. The mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. The zesty bitterness lingers on the taste buds. There are flavors of grapefruit, orange, tropical fruit, lemon zest, and light arbor. It is better out of the can than poured in a glass.
Fun facts about Easy Jack IPA:
• Style: IPA.
• Price: $8.99 for a six-pack of 12-ounce cans at the New Pioneer Food Co-op in Iowa City.
• Alcohol content: 45 percent ABV.
• IBU: 45.
• Firestone Walker entered Iowa one or two years ago. I bought a six-pack of Pivo sometime last year but did not write a review, so this is the first time I have reviewed a Firestone Walker beer in over 10 years, since I reviewed DBA for my second ever BotW post.
The Quiet Man’s grade: B-.
