Beer of the Weekend #876: BFD
Another BotW yearly retrospective (for year 10!) is in my writing queue this week. Before I dip into that, I need post a review of the crushable beast I drank this weekend.
When I saw a four-pack of 19.2-ounce cans of BFD (Beer for Drinking), brewed by the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company of Chico, California, for less than $7 at John’s Grocery a few weeks ago, I had to get it.
The color is clean, clear light gold. Two fingers of off-white, bubbly, buttery, fluffy head dissipates slowly and somewhat evenly; there are slight peaks and valleys in the foam.
The aroma is light but spicy. It is peppery and earthy. There is a touch of yeasty funk. Light malts do peek through as the beer continues to warm.
Light, spicy, and earthy, the flavor mostly mirrors the aroma. It is not peppery, though. It has a pleasing bite and is very crushable. It also has a touch of grapefruit and lemon citrus, just enough to make it interesting. It also has a muskmelon character, though it is thankfully nowhere strong enough to disgust me (I’m not a fan of muskmelon). Though nothing stands out except for the spice, it is light and is very drinkable and tasty. And there are 19.2 ounces of it!

• Price: $6.99 for a four-pack of 19.2-ounce cans. Amazing! I don’t think it was on sale, either. That’s 76.8 ounces of awesomeness for less than seven bucks!
