'MONIKA KRUSE in The Lab LDN' and 'ELLEN ALLIEN in The Lab LDN'

I stumbled onto these stellar Mixmag Lab LDN mixes by Monika Kruse and Ellen Allien last week and thought I would post them. Both are good, and made the very same night, but I like Ellen Allien’s more. It is, as the description aptly says, “otherworldly.” It is deep, dark, rhythmic, trance-inducing, and funky — exactly the way I like it!

One thing I love about Allien’s mix is the sequence between 32:00 and 36:21. It is amazing to watch her layer and fuse beats, tweak levels here and there, bounce, sway, move to the sound, get it just right, and then — BOOM! — shift gear and segue into something else after simultaneously tapping buttons. It reminds me so much of writing, and is energizing and inspirational to watch such expert crafting.
