Beer of the Weekend #772: Avery Salvation

I feel like having a beer tonight, so I’m drinking a bottle of Salvation, brewed by the Avery Brewing Company of Boulder, Colorado.

The color is cloudy wheat. More than two fingers of dense, bubbly, white head dissipates at the edges and leaves a tall mesa in the center, as well as a lot of lacing on the glass. The aroma tickles the nose hairs with some farmhouse-like funk reminiscent of saison. There are hints of pale malt and grass, and touches of fruit are also noticeable. The first sip is “whoa.” It is tasty and complex with layers of flavor. The funk is there and it is accompanied by a tame spice. It has that saison character, but it is not as funky. There is light malt and grass, as well as light fruit, mostly apple and banana. The spice lingers lightly on the taste buds. As the beer continues to warm, the funk dissipates and the spice becomes more prominent. The alcohol is barely perceptible.
