Beer of the Weekend #666: Undead Party Crasher
Wooo HOOOO! Chips and salsa time!
On Saint Patrick’s Day, I reviewed an Irish-themed beer that has been hanging out in my fridge for a while. However, I decided to hold it until later because I want BotW #666 to be something sinister and dark.
I explained what I wanted to one of the beer guys at John’s and asked if he had any recommendations. He offered me a bottle of Undead Party Crasher, brewed by the Mercury Brewing Company of Ipswich, Massachusetts for Clown Shoes.
I thought it was good enough. There really was nothing else that was evil-themed, and I have already reviewed Deviant Dale’s IPA. There was an Iron Maiden beer available, which I suppose would have been a good fit — Iron Maiden’s third studio album is titled The Number of the Beast — but I just was not feeling like a bitter tonight. Imperial stout is not necessarily synonymous with the first day of spring, but it does look sinister.
Serving type: 22-ounce bottle. “BOTTLED ON 11/07/14” is printed on the shoulder.
Appearance: Pours opaque black into a snifter. Two fingers of dense, bubbly, creamy brown-colored head dissipates very slowly and leaves a bubbly skim and webs of lacing along the glass.
Smell: Deep, dark, and roasty. Roasted malt does not dominate, and it is not prominent, but it is present and pleasing. There are also scents of dark chocolate, a little bit of molasses, and black licorice.
Taste: Oooo! Velvety smooth and tasty. A little alcohol is noticeable but it is not overpowering. Overall, it is has very pleasing, dark, roasty flavor. Roasted malt, some smoked malt, dark fruit, dark chocolate, a little molasses, and a little black licorice. Roasted bitterness lingers on the taste bud at the end of each simple.
Drinkability: This is good stuff! Very easy drinking, simple, and flavorful.

In a world full of uncertainty, hardship, and people trying to hold us back, do we need the undead and trademark attorneys too? Clown Shoes says, “No, die, monsters, die!” Forces of darkness brought about a change in the name of this beer, which was released to celebrate our second anniversary. But it still sports signature dark malts, holy water, and malt smoked locally with hickory and ash.
