Beer of the Weekend #665: Peace Tree No Coast IPA
Today was Sirrus Sport weather — definitely a sign that winter will soon be gone. I pulled it out of our storage cave and rode around town. It felt good to be back on my bike, though my keister is pretty sore.
The beer of the weekend is No Coast IPA, brewed by the Peace Tree Brewing Company of Knoxville, Iowa.
Serving type: 12-ounce stubby poured into a shaker pint glass. No freshness date.
Appearance: The color is hazy, golden amber. A half finger of eggshell-colored head leaves a skim and bubbly collar.
Smell: Belgian yeast is noticeable from the get-go, but it fades and lets aromas of citrus and tropical fruit shine. There are scents of kiwi, pineapple, grapefruit, and some cara cara orange. Caramel is also noticeable.
Taste: The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. A balanced flavor gently washes over and entrances the taste buds. It is malty at the front with caramel and pale malt, but the citrus and tropical fruit from the aroma — kiwi, grapefruit, and a little pineapple — are noticeable a moment later. The citrus and tropical fruit are not prominent, though. A mild bitterness emerges toward the end, coating the back of the tongue and tonsils, leaving a pleasing aftertaste that leads to another sip. There is only a hint of Belgian yeast and the alcohol is completely masked.
Drinkability: This is a solid IPA from Peace Tree. It may not be aggressive, but it is flavorful and tasty. The ABV, though, does not make it sessionable.
