Beer of the Weekend #994: The Jaded Optimist
The beer of the weekend last weekend was another Lone Star State beer: The Jaded Optimist, brewed by the Siren Rock Brewing Company of Rockwall, Texas.
Serving type: 12-ounce can. Something is printed on the bottom but it is smeared and illegible.
Appearance: Poured into a pilsner glass. The color is gold with a hint of amber. A finger and a half of dense, bubbly, buttery head dissipates slowly and leaves short trails along the glass.
Smell: Very grassy! Grass, light cereal malt, earthy hops, a touch of lemon. It is bright and acidic. It smells like a helles.
Taste: It tastes like a helles, too. It is grassy and bright, soft but dry. It has a lemon zing and a nice bite. It is authentic.
Fun facts about the Jaded Optimist:
• Style: Helles.
• Price: $10.99 for a sixer of 12-ounce cans at the Total Wine & More on East Stacy Road in Allen, Texas.
• Alcohol content: 5.2 percent ABV.
The Quiet Man’s grade: A.
