Beer of the Weekend #993: DDH 755: HBC 586
The beer of the weekend is a single can I received for my birthday: DDH 755: HBC 586, brewed by BlackStack Brewing of St. Paul, Minnesota.
Serving type: 16-ounce can. There is no freshness date.
Appearance: Poured into my Number One Pint Glass. The color is very hazy (cloudy?) straw. The Foxy Lady says it looks like bananas, and I agree. A half finger of bubble-spotted, off-white, buttery head leaves a bubbly skim and collar.
Smell: A mix of tropical and pit fruit. Grapefruit, orange, mango, peach, apricot, arboreal hops, pineapple, tangerine, and a touch of melon. There is a lot going on, and it is also very smoothie-like.
Taste: It is fruity and sweet, though hops provide countering bitterness. It is much like the aroma. It is a mix of citrus and pit fruit, though more pit fruit. It is a melange of mango, peach, apricot, grapefruit, and arboreal hops. It is smooth and smoothie-like.
Fun facts about DDH 755: HBC 586:
• Style: New England IPA.
• Price: Having a birthday and knowing an alcohol distributor.
• Alcohol content: 6.8 percent ABV.
• Here is the description printed on the can and on the beer’s webpage:
Our favorite fog dog gets some extra love with a third dry hop of a new experimental varietal that we’ve become rather obsessed with as of late, HBC 586, in addition to the first two of our hand selected Azacca, Amarillo & Citra. Saturated salutations from our house to yours.
• DDH 755 is a series and HBC 586 is the hop variety used in this edition. I can’t find any information about the meaning behind DDH but assume it is short for double-dry hopped. 755 is the address of the brewery (755 Prior Ave N).
The Quiet Man’s grade: A-.
