Pop-free: Five years and counting

Five years. That is how long it’s been since I last drank pop.

It was exactly five years ago today. I washed down a whole falafel sandwich and tray of fries with a Mountain Dew at Oasis. I have not had a single drop of pop (or soda, or whatever you want to call it) since then.

Will I ever drink pop again? Probably not. Not only do I want to keep the streak going (though I may not celebrate it with another post until the 10th anniversary), but pop is not good stuff; it has zero nutritional value. It tastes good—I’ll admit that—but it is only detrimental to one’s health. The less added sugar one ingests, the better. Besides, the spare tire around my midsection is a sign I already overload on carbs (and don’t burn enough calories), so I don’t need to overload on added sugar. Pop is one less nasty thing in my life.
